Hi, I’m Camilo.
After more than 20 years working with design and UX in Brazil, a trip to Porto changed everything. We fell in love with the pace, the light, and somewhere between that first visit and the flight back home, I knew I couldn’t return to the corporate life I’d grown so tired of. So we packed up, moved countries, and I traded a career behind screens for the call of a sketchbook.
These days, I’m based in the Alto Minho, in northern Portugal, still chasing the same thing that brought me here in the first place: the corners that get overlooked, the half-forgotten places that carry a story if you look closely enough.
My style leans toward cartoon, with bold and distinctive lines. If I look closely at my own black and white work, at the hatching and the contrast, I can still see where it comes from: the raw, energetic lines of Steve Ditko and Jack Kirby, and the horror comics of Jayme Cortez and Flávio Colin that were part of my childhood as a reader. They’re a world away from what I draw today, but they were my first drawing school, and I think they never really left.
Getting back into urban sketching led me to rediscover watercolor and other traditional techniques, mostly through Urban Sketchers meetups here in the north of Portugal. That’s why you’ll find plenty of sketchbook pages and watercolors throughout my portfolio. These days, urban sketching is where my focus really lives.
When I’m not drawing, I’m with my wife, my kids, and our cats… and to be honest, there’s probably a sketchbook in my hand anyway.
