Capela do Senhor da Pedra in Watercolor and a Slow Day

Capela do Senhor da Pedra in Watercolor came out of a really special day for me, over in Gaia. I managed to grab some time off right in the middle of the week. We went to do absolutely nothing at a beach we’d been wanting to check out for a while. It was our wedding anniversary, so we got ready and headed there. We did something that used to be pretty hard back in Brazil, taking a day off and just going, without much planning. Just grab a backpack and go.
We took the train, another one of those little conveniences here. We walked down some lovely streets and soon enough we were at the beach, right in front of the chapel. We rented a little beach tent, and that was it, the day felt complete.
This chapel is pretty famous for photos, with waves crashing on the rocks right behind it. And honestly, being right there on the beach, it really is beautiful. People say that, way back in Portugal’s past, pagan rituals used to happen there, and that’s where all the legends around the place come from. Maybe one day I’ll draw that darker history.

But that day, I just drew it as it was, as beautiful as the day itself. Like always, I had one of my sketchbooks in my backpack, so it was easy. I grabbed my pens and started sketching, then went straight into watercolor. This ended up being one of the rare drawings I finished completely on the spot, outside of an urban sketchers meetup.
Afterward, we walked along the beach and watched the sunset. It was really good.
