Passeio das Virtudes at Sunset in Porto

Passeio das Virtudes still holds one of my favorite viewpoints in Porto. I can stand there for hours, just watching the city and the Douro flow by underneath. Every viewpoint here has its own charm and its own crowd, but this one was yesterday’s pick.

I went back to Passeio das Virtudes and stayed until the end of the day to watch the sunset on the cobblestones. We sat at a table on the stone, facing a huge tree. It made the mood even nicer, even if it blocked part of the river view. Was that a bad thing? Not at all. It still gave me this drawing, made right there at the table. We drank a few beers and snacked on tremoços, the local salted lupini beans.

As the day wound down, more and more people showed up. At some point, the cobblestones really turned into a meeting spot. I loved the place, especially because it’s cheap, full of down to earth bars, nothing too polished just to please tourists.

More people who were there, on Calçada das Virtudes.
